What does this rule or driving tip mean? The access requirement helps limit large differences in speed. It is not a minimum speed that you must always drive: traffic jams and weather conditions may require a lower safe speed.
How to apply this safely
Check whether your vehicle can still keep up safely with traffic if it develops a fault.
Adjust your speed in poor visibility and on slippery roads.
Use the acceleration lane to build up to the appropriate speed.
Driving lesson and exam tip
Do not confuse the access requirement with a required driving speed. The conditions always determine what speed is safe.
Remember: Motor vehicles that can and may drive at least 60 km/h are allowed on the motorway.
