When should you let a blind pedestrian go first?

You must give way to blind and visually impaired pedestrians who use a white cane or guide dog.

Wanneer moet je een blinde voetganger voor laten gaan? – Rijmaatje

What does this rule or driving tip mean? The identifying aids show that someone cannot see traffic, or can only see it limitedly. Drivers must give these pedestrians the chance to cross safely.

How to apply this safely
Stop well before the pedestrian’s crossing line.
Do not use the horn as an invitation.
Wait until the entire crossing has been completed safely.

Driving lesson and exam tip
Keep your response calm and clear. A quiet electric car may be even harder to hear.
Remember: White cane or guide dog seen? Slow down and let the pedestrian go first.
