What does this rule or driving tip mean? Changing lanes is a special manoeuvre. You indicate your direction and may not force other traffic to change speed or direction.
How to apply this safely
First, look far ahead to see whether the new lane will remain usable.
Check your rear-view mirror, side mirror and blind spot.
Move over smoothly without getting stuck between two lanes.
Driving lesson and exam tip
A turn signal is a warning, not a reservation of space. Wait visibly until the gap is large enough.
Remember: mirror, signal, blind spot: only change lanes when the space truly stays clear.
