How do you perform an emergency stop with ABS?

During an emergency stop with ABS, apply firm braking pressure. A vibrating brake pedal means the system is trying to keep the wheels steerable.

What does this rule or driving tip mean?ABS prevents the wheels from locking for too long and helps keep the car steerable. The system may cause noticeable pulses in the brake pedal.

How to apply this safely
Look at the safe escape route, not at the obstacle.
If you are driving a manual car, also press the clutch.
Keep both hands firmly on the steering wheel.

Driving lesson and test tip
Practise an emergency stop only with an instructor in a suitable place. The correct reaction should feel familiar before a real emergency happens.

Remember: brake hard and keep pressing; do not release the pedal when ABS vibrates.
